Ousted Hamas prime minister Ismail Haneya on Wednesday urged Arab countries to linger if they wanted to take action against the Palestinian factions which may block national reconciliation.
"The Arabs should be patient when it comes to imposing sanctions on the side that is responsible for the obstruction," Haneya said in Gaza as his movement started talks with Egypt whichtries to launch the dialogue.
Hamas was the last faction to be invited to Cairo after Egyptian officials mediated the representatives from 12 Palestinian factions on how to end the Palestinian political crisis, especially the feud between Hamas and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.
But Hamas fears that it won't be able to impose its vision in the talks with Egyptians, especially as most of factions were supportive to Fatah.
"The Arab should stand on the distance between every Palestinian party," Haneya said, adding that the Arabs "should have intervened earlier to end the siege on Gaza Strip." Haneya was referring to sanctions Israel imposed on Gaza after Hamas tookover control of the coastal Strip last year.
The crisis widened after Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and ousted Fatah in Gaza. Abbas responded by consolidating his power in West Bank and firing Hamas administration in Gaza. Hamas rejected Abbas' decisions. Source: Xinhua
