Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Wednesday said that the Western governments should know that sanctions can do nothing to Iranian nation, the officialIRNA news agency reported.

Speaking at a rally in north Khorassan province, he said the Western governments think the Iranian nation would retreat from its inalienable rights in face of sanctions.

They (the West) have always been harbingers of war and conflicts on the pretext of support for freedom and human rights, Ahmadinejad added.

The president also said that the big powers try to transfer their problems to other countries.

His remarks came after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1835 to reaffirm its previous resolutions on Iran and demand full compliance of the Islamic Republic.

It called on Iran, which till now has been under three UN sanctions over its disputed nuclear program, "to comply fully and without delay with its obligations" and to meet the requirements of the IAEA Board of Governors. The resolution contained no new sanctions.

According to a recent IAEA report, due to Tehran's block, the UN nuclear watchdog had been unable to make much progress in investigating Iran's suspect nuclear program.

The United States and its allies have accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons, but Iran insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.

Iran till now has been under three UN sanctions over its disputed nuclear program.
