Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman held talks on Wednesday with a high-level delegation of the Palestinian Hamas movement on means of ending the current inter-Palestinian feud.
Talks between Suleiman and the Hamas team, led by the movement's deputy politburo chief Moussa Abu Marzouq, came as part of the Egyptian mediation efforts to resume an inter-Palestinian reconciliation dialogue, said the Egyptian MENA news agency.
The talks is meant to pave the way for the formation of a new Palestinian unity government that "will be entrusted with negotiating an end to the Israeli-imposed siege on the Gaza Strip and arranging for (Palestinian) presidential and legislative elections," said the report.
Since late August, Egypt has held a series of separate talks with representatives of Palestinian factions in a bid to resume the inter-Palestinian dialogue and end political separation between the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Palestinian National Authority-ruled West Bank.
According to earlier reports, the Palestinian reconciliation dialogue was expected to open on Nov. 4, but some Palestinian groups asked to start earlier by Oct. 14. Source: Xinhua
