Deposed Hamas premier Ismail Haneya on Saturday accused the United States of leading sanctions and boycott against his Hamas movement which won Palestinian parliamentary elections in 2006.

Haneya made the accusation during a gathering for Hamas supporters in Jabaliya refuge camp in northern Gaza Strip.

"Those who decided to impose siege on the Palestinians by force and money are being tortured now in the same way they tortured the Palestinian people," Haneya told the gathering, referring to the U.S.-led sanctions and boycott against Hamas.

Israel, U.S. and Europe boycotted Hamas government which was formed after the elections and Israel imposed a blockade in Gaza Strip where most of Hamas leaders live.

Israel tightened its closure on Gaza Strip when Hamas took over the territory by force after routing security forces of moderate President Mahmoud Abbas in June 2007.

Haneya, meanwhile, held that the collapses in U.S. stock markets were a result of the U.S. wars against Arab and Muslim countries.

"The financial collapses happen these days because you (the Americans) have attacked Palestine, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan andthe Muslims all over the world," Haneya said.

"The world is witnessing the collapse of the American empire," Haneya stressed.
