Islamic Hamas movement on Saturday accused Palestinian security forces of arresting 17 members of the Islamic movement in the West Bank.
In a statement sent to the media, Hamas said the security forces, loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah movement, arrested 17 members of Islamic Hamas.
The arrests were conducted in Nablus, Hebron, Jenin and Qalqilya, according to the statement.
Last year, Hamas took over control of the Gaza Strip by force, routing pro-Abbas forces and ousting his Fatah movement. Abbas responded by consolidating his rule in the West Bank and launching a crack down against Hamas supporters in the West Bank.
Fatah also accused Hamas of chasing down its leaders and members in the Gaza Strip.
The arrests took place as reports say a progress was made on Egypt's efforts to broker a reconciliation between the two sides.
