An Islamic Hamas movement spokesman said on Saturday that the details of the inter-Palestinian reconciliation scheme will be discussed on the negotiating table in Cairo at the end of October.

"Hamas delegation members informed the Egyptians that they accept forming a national unity government," said Sami Abu Zuhri, the spokesman, adding "the details of Hamas' meeting with the Egyptian mediators and what was agreed upon in principle will be discussed on the table of dialogue which is expected to take place in Cairo before the end of October."

He said in a written statement sent to reporters that the suggestion of Nabil Shaath, chief of Fatah movement's delegation to Cairo dialogue, will be thoroughly discussed on the negotiating table between the two sides.

Shaath voiced optimism earlier on the meeting held in Cairo between Hamas leaders and the senior Egyptian security officials, saying "it was positive and the two sides had agreed on the outlines of the outstanding issues."

Zuhri also confirmed that a bilateral meeting between rival Fatah and Hamas movements is scheduled to be held on Oct. 25 in Cairo. Fatah movement leaders said they haven't been yet invited to attend such a meeting.

Speaking about the presidential and legislative elections, Abu Zuhri confirmed that it was agreed on to form a legal-political committee to discuss this issue in detail.

"Any agreement to be reached concerning the elections should bein the frame of the law and the constitution," Abu Zuhri said, adding "no details related to this subject were discussed yet."

Earlier reports said Hamas would accept extending the presidential term of President Mahmoud Abbas, which is due to end in January 2009, for additional six months.

Senior Hamas leader Ismail Radwan told reporters in Gaza that "the report is untrue and inaccurate," adding "this subject would be a matter of discussion when the real dialogue starts by the end of this month."

Meanwhile, the Hamas delegation, who had held talks with the Egyptians in Cairo, arrived in Damascus earlier on Saturday to hold talks with senior Hamas leaders based in Syria on the current situation.
