A new terrorist network was uncovered in south Lebanon by the Lebanese army intelligence service, local As-Safier daily reported Saturday.
The Lebanese security forces arrested three members of the network who were in preparation to target the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the report said.
"The three men were caught in possession of pipes containing unknown substances which have been sent to European laboratory for determining their containing," it said.
The arrests took place in the region of Kfar Shuba in south Lebanon, which is under UNIFIL control.
Last Sunday, Lebanese authorities announced that a "terrorist network" was arrested in north Lebanon, and is believed to be responsible for three deadly attacks against the Lebanese army in the north since May.
Security officials have said that the north Lebanon cell is linked to al-Qaida-inspired Fatah al-Islam militia which fought a deadly 15-week battle with the Lebanese army in Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp in north Lebanon last year. Source: Xinhua
