Visiting Head of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party Walid Jumblatt said here on Monday that the border demarcation between Lebanon and Syria needs some time to be finalized.

Jumblatt made the remarks following talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak earlier in the day, the state MENA news agency reported.

On Oct. 15, Lebanon and Syria signed a document on the establishment of first ever diplomatic ties between the two neighboring countries, one day after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a decree to start the diplomatic ties.

As for the Sheba Farms issue, Jumblatt said Lebanon and Syria should mull an official statement in this regard.

According to a Monday report by Israeli daily Ha'aretz, Israel is looking into an initiative that includes a solution to the dispute over the Shebaa Farms border area for reaching a long-termnon-belligerence treaty with Lebanon to prevent renewed conflicts along the border.

During the Six Day War in 1967, Israeli forces seized the Shebaa Farms from Syria. However, Lebanese and Syrian officials said Syria had officially given the territory to Lebanon in 1951.

During his visit to France in July, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the territory belongs to Lebanon and the two countries will demarcate their border at Shebaa Farms after Israel withdraw from the region.

Jumblatt, who arrived in Cairo Sunday on a two-day visit to Egypt, said he discussed during his meeting with Mubarak the Lebanese and regional situation.

Terming Egypt's role in the Lebanese issues as "effective," Jumblatt expressed his appreciation to the Egyptian support to the stability, independence and sovereignty of Lebanon.
