Israel has agreed to allow Palestinian National Authority (PNA) forces to deploy in West Bank city of Hebron to restore security and order there, Palestinian sources said Thursday.
The decision to allow 500-strong security forces to deploy in Hebron was made during a meeting on Wednesday between Israeli and Palestinian security officials.
The Israeli and the Palestinian security chiefs will meet again in the coming few days to start the plan "which is intended to reinforce law and maintain the general order."
The deployment of PNA forces in Hebron would be sensitive since Israeli settlers, who live in Hebron settlements, can enter the Palestinian markets and roads in the city.
Last year, Israel and the PNA made similar agreements to deploy the Palestinian forces in Nablus and other West Bank cities.
Under these agreements, many fighters loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah accepted to disarm in exchange for Israeli amnesty. However, Israel arrested some of the former fighters despite being given pardon.
The Israeli army also continued to raid the West Bank cities despite the security agreements with the PNA. Source:Xinhua
