Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said here on Monday that the Fatah-led Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) supports an Egyptian plan to help end the inter-Palestinian rift.
All PLO factions reached a consensus on the Egyptian plan proposed recently on a comprehensive Palestinian national reconciliation dialogue, Abbas told reporters following his talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
"We are taking it all, but (we can't make) 100 percent guarantees," the Egyptian MENA news agency quoted Abbas as saying.
The Palestinian leader said all the factions do hope that the Egyptian paper will be a success, adding that "If not, then we've to try again."
Egypt, after holding a series of separate bilateral talks with representatives of some 13 Palestinian factions, proposed a plan that envisions the formation of a unity government replacing the feuding Hamas administration of Gaza Strip and the Fatah-backed government of the West Bank.
The Egyptian proposal also calls on the Palestinians to agree on holding early elections and reform their security services in the two territories.
According to earlier reports, a comprehensive Palestinian reconciliation dialogue is expected to kick off in Cairo on Nov. 9.
Answering a question whether he will attend the Egypt-brokered dialogue, Abbas said "we will give our reply by that time."
Abbas, who arrived here on Sunday for a two-day visit to Egypt, also discussed with Mubarak means of promoting the stalled Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.
