Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Monday condemned a recent U.S. cross-border raid which killed eight Syrian civilians, the official SANA news agency reported.
Mottaki made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, underlining his country's support to Syria "in the face of plots targeting Syria and the whole region," SANA said.
Assad believed that the threats and provocations will not frighten the Arab and Islamic nations, but they will increase their commitment to the right causes.
Mottaki also relayed to Assad a letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the latest regional and international developments, particularly the U.S. aggression on the Syrian territories, and the situation in Iraq, Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian lands, according to SANA.
Syria's official media reported that eight Syrian civilians were killed in a U.S. helicopters attack on a Syrian farm near its border with Iraq last week.
The U.S. State Department and White House have made no confirmation or denial, refusing to comment on the attack.
But U.S. officials explained that the raid killed a top operative of al-Qaida in Iraq who was about to conduct an attack in Iraq, as intelligence suggested.
