Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman held talks on Tuesday with a visiting Hamas delegation ahead of an upcoming Palestinian national unity dialogue, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
The Hamas delegation, led by the movement's deputy chairman of political office Moussa Abu-Marzouq, discussed the preparation works for the Palestinian dialogue that is reportedly to open officially on Nov. 10.
Suleiman said during the talks that Egypt is exerting its greatest efforts to render the Palestinian dialogue a success, MENA quoted a well-informed source as saying.
All Palestinian factions received copies of an Egyptian draft plan for resolving the inter-Palestinian rift and their representatives will arrive in Cairo for talks this weekend, said the source.
The Hamas delegation arrived in Egypt on Monday.
Following a nearly two-month talks with some 12 Palestinian movements, Egypt presented a draft plan in late October designed to end the inter-Palestinian rift.
The Egyptian plan calls for establishing a new Palestinian national unity government, rehabilitating the security forces of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), reforming the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), and preparing for presidential and legislative elections in the Palestinian territories.
Hamas voiced its welcome to the Egyptian paper, but urged Egypt to consider the movement's reservations "in order to give a push for the dialogue to succeed."
