U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Israel Thursday, in a new bid to push forward the sluggish Middle East peace process.
Rice is expected to meet with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni later in the evening, local daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported on its website.
This is Rice's eighth visit to the hot spot since Annapolis peace conference, and it occurred just following the election of Barack Obama as new U.S. president on Tuesday night.
During her four-day Middle East trip, Rice will visit Israel, the Palestinian territories, Jordan and Egypt.
She is expected to prepare for a fresh start by a new Israeli government that will take office after Israeli parliamentary elections scheduled for Feb. 10 and the upcoming Obama administration, which takes office on Jan. 20. Source: Xinhua
