Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Saturday that his country fully supports Lebanon to reach stability and development, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.

At a joint press conference with his visiting Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman, Mubarak said Egypt is following up Suleiman's efforts on the Lebanese national dialogue.

Asserting Egypt's support for Lebanon and its constitutional institutions, Mubarak voiced his confidence that the Lebanese has the capability to solve the political crisis and maintain stability and unity.

Egypt also support Lebanon's efforts to improve ties with its neighbors and enhance cooperation with countries in the region and the international arena, he said.

Suleiman, who arrived here on Saturday morning on his first visit to Egypt since he assumed power, said Egypt has played an important role in the region and has always supported Lebanon.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed the recent developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as means of boosting bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, economy and energy.

In late October, Egypt promised to extend its natural gas supply to Lebanon from next January to ease Lebanon's suffering from energy shortage.

In addition to establishing more development projects in Lebanon, Egypt also pledged to exert more efforts to help Lebanon reach stability and national reconciliation.
