Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to emphasize before Middle East peace mediators that the Palestinians will not accept partial solution to their conflict with Israel, an official said on Sunday.
The Middle East Quartet, which comprises the U.S., the EU, Russia and the UN, meet on Sunday in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh to assess Israeli-Palestinian peace talks one year after they were launched.
"President Abbas will stress that the Palestinians will not accept partial, transitional or provisional negotiations," Erekat told Voice of Palestine radio.
Abbas is also to stress that any peace deal between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Israel "must involve all the outstanding issues."
"The agreement should handle the issues of Jerusalem, the borders, the settlements, the refugees, the water and the prisoners," Erekat reiterated.
The U.S.-sponsored negotiations, launched at Annapolis peace conference, failed to make notable progress due to the continuation of Israeli settlement activities in West Bank and East Jerusalem. The two territories would be part of the Palestinian future statehood.
The talks are designated to create a Palestinian statehood alongside Israel but they seem to be failing to meet the deadline which was initially set for the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Abbas will brief the mediators on the achievements the PNA carried out according to the first phase of the U.S.-backed Road Map peace plan.
"The president will show the PNA achievements while the Israeli side did not carry out its obligations, mainly the halting of the settlement activities," according to Erekat.
Abbas will also talk about the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire which took effect between Hamas and Israel in Gaza Strip. Last year, Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and seized control of Gaza Strip. Ties between Hamas and Abbas and Egypt's efforts to reconcile the two sides will be discussed as well.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice joins the meeting alongside Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner. Javier Solana, the EU foreign policy chief, and Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary general, are also present the Quartet meeting.
