The Interior Ministry of Pakistan blamed local Taliban on Friday for the abduction of Iranian diplomat and other foreigners.
"The militants, after facing defeat, have now started abduction of foreigners, and the abduction of Iranian diplomat is the third incident of its kind in recent weeks," Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik said when talking to reporters here.
Heshmatollah Attarzadeh, commercial attache of the Iranian consulate in Peshawar, the capital of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), was kidnapped from Hayatabad neighborhood when he was heading to his office on Thursday.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
"We regret and condemn the kidnapping of Iranian diplomat," said Malik.
The militants are sending bad signals to the world, Malik said, "It is no service to Islam. They are not sincere to the country. They are enemy of the country."
The News Network International (NNI) news agency quoted Malik as saying that he talked to the Iranian ambassador on Friday and assured him that the government would use all resources for the safe and early recovery of the diplomat.
Afghan Ambassador-designate to Pakistan Abdul Khaliq Farahi was kidnapped by unidentified men from Peshawar on Sept. 22. There has been no information about his whereabouts since then. Zia ul Haq Ahadi, brother of Afghan Finance Minister Anwar ul Haq Ahadi was also kidnapped from Peshawar on Nov. 2.
Another Afghan national, Abdul Haq Danishmand who was head of Peshawar's Aryana University was kidnapped in Pakistan on Nov. 3 while he was on his way from the Afghan city of Jalalabad to Peshawar, according to the NNI. Source: Xinhua
