A Hamas leader on Wednesday said that ceasefire in Gaza Strip has its price and Israel should pay that price.

"The lull is not given for free and those who are interested in the calmness should pay its price," said Mahmoud Zahar, Hamas' former foreign minister, in Gaza city.

The Egyptian-brokered ceasefire, which took effect in June, was shocked this month by a flare-up of violence between Israel and armed Palestinian groups.

Israel, on Nov. 4, carried out a raid into Gaza, killing a Hamas militant and 13 others in ensuing fighting. The armed groups also resumed rocket attacks against Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

"All forms of aggression on the Palestinian people must stop and the crossing points must be open," Zahar said as explaining the lull's price.

The ceasefire agreement ends on Dec. 19 "and then we will sit and decide on the lull's fate after we assess this experience," according to Zahar.
