One Turkish officer was killed and five soldiers were wounded in a clash with outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK)in eastern Turkey on Wednesday, a high-ranking official said.
Agri Governor Mehmet Cetin said in a statement that the clash between Turkish security forces and PKK took place in Sinet Yayla area near Kagizman border in Agri province Wednesday afternoon, leaving one Turkish major dead and five others wounded.
Meanwhile, Bingol Governor Irfan Balkanlioglu said in a statement that a mine planted by PKK went off when a group of village guards patrolling in Karliova town of eastern Bingol province on Wednesday morning, wounding four village guards, including one in serious condition.
The Turkish forces take tougher actions against PKK after the country's legislature extended on Oct. 8 the government's mandate to launch cross-border operations against the rebels in northern Iraq.
The PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Some 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
