Hamas on Saturday denied reports that Jordanian King Abdullah II has mediated between Israel and the Islamic movement to reinforce Gaza Strip ceasefire.
"The reports about the Jordanian mediation are untrue," said Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum, adding "the issue of the lull is in Egypt's hands and Hamas is still sticking to Egypt's mediation regarding the lull."
An ongoing escalation between armed Palestinian groups and Israel since Nov. 4 has rocked the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire which took effect in June.
At least six Israeli soldiers were wounded last night as Hamas fired mortar shells at their base near the Gaza Strip, the latest in the escalation.
The ceasefire calls on Israel to ease Gaza blockade, which was imposed last year after Hamas seized control of the coastal Strip, in exchange for halting rocket-fire from the territory.
