Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is to reshuffle soon the caretaker government of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, a well-informed Palestinian source revealedon Sunday.
The source told the Jerusalem-based al-Mannar Daily that as soon as President Abbas gets back from the Hajj in Saudi Arabia next week, he would reshuffle the current government by adding more new ministers to the Fayyad cabinet.
"The new ministers that would join Fayyad's government will represent several factions, members in Palestine Liberation Organization," the source said in condition of anonymity, adding that Hamas and Islamic Jihad won't be part of the reshuffle.
Fayyad's caretaker government was formed right after Islamic Hamas movement took control of the Gaza Strip by force in mid Junelast year and routed President Abbas' Fatah security forces.
In response to Hamas' Gaza takeover, Abbas deposed the national unity government led by Hamas leader Ismail Haneya. Haneya and his government rejected the Abbas decree and kept ruling the Gaza Strip.
According to the source, reshuffling the Fayyad government willbe one of the major decisions that Abbas would take after the end of the Muslims' holiday of Eid al-Ahda.
Abbas would also take a decision to merge the two security apparatuses, the preventive and the intelligence security, into one apparatus called the internal security, said the source.
