Iran has sent a consignment of humanitarian aid to victims in the flood-stricken southeastern Yemeni provinces, Iran's satellite channel Press TV reported on Wednesday.
The 60-ton consignment of basic needs would be distributed among the people in two phases, Iran's Ambassador to Yemen Mahmoud Alizadeh was quoted as saying.
He also expressed the sympathy of the Iranian government and nation to the victims, saying that Iran's humanitarian aid to Yemen was a sign of growing mutual relations.
Heavy rains swept through southeastern Yemen in late October and severe floods left more than 100 people killed, according to the Yemeni government and the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to a UN report, over 2,000 houses had been destroyed or damaged and power lines, roads, phone lines and water supplies had been wrecked.
At that time, more than 20,000 people had been displaced and over 10,000 people homeless in the flood-stricken Yemeni provinces. Source:Xinhua
