The Iranian diplomat kidnapped in Pakistan in mid November is alive and in good health, Iran's satellite television channel Press TV reported on Sunday.
Heshmatollah Attarzadeh Niyaki, Commercial Attache of Iranian Consulate, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Nov. 13 while on his way to office from his home in the Pakistani city of Peshawar. His driver was killed in the attack.
"The Iranian embassy's efforts to locate the abducted diplomat have been satisfactory," Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mashallah Shakeri was quoted as saying on Saturday.
"We were informed by Pakistani security officials that Attarzadeh is alive and we hope he will soon reunite with his family," he added.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned the kidnapping of the Iranian diplomat in Pakistan, saying that the abduction was an act of "terror."
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said in a statement on the day of abduction that according to Vienna convention on diplomatic rights, the Pakistani government has the responsibility to protect foreign diplomats.
Iran hopes that the kidnappers would be identified as soon as possible and the Iranian diplomat would be released safely under the Pakistani officials' full cooperation, he said.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has denounced the kidnapping, saying the Pakistani officials would leave no stone unturned to find the kidnapped diplomat.
