Iran's university Basij (volunteer)students threw their shoes at a symbol of the U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday, the official IRNA news agency reported.
At a sit-in dubbed "The Shoe Odds", which was organized by student Basij organization of universities in front of the former U.S. embassy, the crowd threw their shoes at one person wearing the mask of George W. Bush while standing at the tribune on which the flag of the United States had been attached.
The banner for the ceremony read "The United States is the greatest Satan," which quoted Iran's late Islamic Revolution leader Imam Khomeini.
"I wish our shoes could be remote-controlled," somebody in the crowd shouted, according to IRNA.
The masked Bush was delivering speech in favor of the U.S. efforts for the good of Iraqi and Afghan people, but the demonstrators chanted such slogans as "Down with the United States," and "Down with Israel."
At the site where masked Bush was standing, the images of the Iraqi shoe-thrower Muntadhar al-Zaidi were fixed.
Al-Zaidi, a reporter of Cairo-based Baghdadia Iraqi television, threw his shoes at Bush at a news conference with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in Baghdad on Dec. 14.
