The Spanish government Sunday condemned Israel for its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and called on Israel to end the act of violence.
The condemnation and call were made by Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos in a statement.
On Israel's remarks that the raid was a reaction to Hamas's rockets attack on the Israeli territory, Moratinos said such reaction was incommensurate.
Moratinos said he stressed the need, in a telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart Tzipi Livni, of a permanent truce between the warring parties and a political solution to the crisis in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to Spain Raphael Schutz told local media that Israel's move was not incommensurate, saying the Israeli military operations were aimed to boost security in the Gaza Strip.
About 300 people have been killed and 1,000 others injured in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since Saturday.
