Iran's Red Crescent Society said it was ready to set up a field hospital in the Gaza Strip or in one of the countries nearby.

"Iran's Red Crescent Society expressed readiness to set up a field hospital in Gaza Strip or in one of the countries in the vicinity of the tiny piece of land," said a statement released by the Public Relations Department of the aid group.

It "intends to help treat those wounded by Zionist regime's attacks on Gaza," the statement carried by the official IRNA news agency said, adding that the society was also ready to transfer the wounded Gazans to Iran for treatment.

Earlier on Tuesday, chief of Iran's Youth Red Crescent Organization, Mahmoud Mozaffar, said they had worked out a plan of "each Iranian 20O tomans (20 U.S. cents)" to help Gazans, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

"The plan is going to be implemented within the next two days," Mozaffar said, adding, "It is predicted that in case 10 million Iranians participate in this plan, about 2 billion tomans (2 million U.S. dollars) will be donated."

To achieve this purpose, tents of Iran's Youth Red Crescent Organization would be set up in all parts of the country, including schools and universities, he said.

The money would then be spent on purchasing food, clothing and medical items for Gazans, he added.

Mozaffar also revealed the second project of its organization is to register and organize volunteers among the young people "to present the humanitarian aid in the territory of Gaza."

The Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip was under intensive Israeli air strikes for the fourth successive day on Tuesday, during which 369Palestinians have so far been killed in the powerful offensive which Israel said was aimed at halting nearly daily cross-border rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.

Hamas is strongly backed by Iran which does not recognize Israel as a state of the international community.
