Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki arrived in Tehran on Saturday morning for a two-day official visit to improve ties between neighboring Iraq and Iran, state television reported.
Shortly after his arrival, the Iraqi delegation led by al-Maliki held first round of negotiations with Iranian officials on Iran's partnership in the Iraqi development projects, according to Iran's official IRNA news agency.
They held talks with Iran's Energy Minister Parviz Fattah, Roads and Transport Minister Hamid Behbahani and Commerce Minister Masoud Mir-Kazemi.
The Iraqi prime minister was accompanied by Iraqi ministers of commerce, electricity and transportation as well as senior officials and advisors from Iraqi foreign ministry.
Al-Maliki and his delegation were earlier welcomed by Iran's First Vice President Parviz Davoudi at the Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran.

Iraq's ambassador to Iran Mohammed Majid al-Sheikh told IRNA earlier that al-Maliki's two-day visit to the Islamic Republic has an economic agenda and the two sides would follow up the trade deals already signed.
It is al-Maliki's fourth visit to Iran since he took office in 2006.
