Israel suddenly intensified its military operation on the Gaza Strip Saturday evening, with 17 Palestinians killed in the past half hour in different airstrikes.
Witness and medic sources said that the latest airstrike happened in northern Gaza City, killing two Palestinians.
A short while ago, Israel carried out airstrikes against a mosque in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza Strip, killing 11 and wounding 50 Palestinians.
In southern Gaza, four Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes against targets near the border town of Rafah. Another four Palestinians were injured.
Meanwhile, Israeli tanks and artillery batteries surrounding Gaza started shelling the northern, eastern and southern areas of the coastal strip on Saturday evening. No injuries were reported in the shelling until now.
Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance services in the Palestinian health ministry said the latest casualty brought the death toll caused by Israel's eight-day pounding of Gaza to more than 450.
