Over hundred angry leftist demonstrators have been confronted Sunday with security forces outside the U.S. embassy in Awkar, east of Beirut, New TV reported.
Demonstrators belonging to the Lebanese communist party who were protesting against the Israeli attacks in Gaza, attempted to cross the wires around the embassy, where they were confronted with tear gas and water hoses.
One of the demonstrators told New TV that they were trapped by the security forces who allowed them to approach the fences outside the embassy and "then cracked down on them" with tear gas bombs and water hoses.
TV footage showed demonstrators throwing stones and onions on the embassy guards, and ambulances rushing to rescue wounded demonstrators.
Lebanese leftist parties, Hezbollah and Palestinians have been demonstrating and staging sit-ins in various Lebanese areas, demanding Arab pressure to help Gaza Palestinians.
Demonstrators clashed with riot police and security forces last Sunday at the Egyptian embassy in western Beirut.
