Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora said Wednesday that the Israeli killings of civilians in Gaza are characterized as "war crimes," which are witnessed by the whole world, local Elnashra website reported.
Seniora urged UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to pressure Israel for its "war crimes," saying "an investigation should be carried out to punish those responsible for the massacres."
He stressed the need for a united Arab stand regarding the crimes which Israel is committing, in order to "reach a solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people, which would be based on an immediate ceasefire, opening of the crossings and withdrawal of Israeli troops from the territories it occupied."
Seniora also called for renewing negotiations in order to preserve the unity of Palestinian territories under the sponsorship of the United Nations and the Arab League.
Over 600 Palestinians have been killed and over 2,700 others wounded in Gaza since the so-called Operation Cast Lead began on Dec. 27, and the death toll is certain to rise. Palestinian and UN figures showed that some 300 of the killed are civilians and some 130 are children aged below 16.
