Iran said Wednesday that it has dispatched 22 special envoys to European and Asian countries to seek for a solution to the Gaza issue.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi revealed the news in a statement, local satellite channel Press TV reported, adding the spokesman, however, did not mention which countries Tehran had dispatched envoys to.
Iran has called for an immediate halt to Israeli raids on Gaza, as the humanitarian crisis in the strip turns into a "horrific tragedy," Qashqavi was quoted as saying.
In order to put an end to the ongoing crisis in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, Israel should lift its blockade on the Palestinian territory, he added.
The spokesman also slammed the failure of the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution and put an end to the Israeli campaign, saying "Israel's attack on Gaza is taking place under the nose of world powers."
"The Security Council is unable to issue a statement against Israel because the United States has the veto right," Qashqavi said.
Over 600 have been killed and some 2,700 others wounded in Gaza since the so-called Operation Cast Lead began on Dec. 27. On the Israeli side, ten have been killed so far, including four soldiers fallen in two friendly fire incidents.
