A total of eight Iraqi soldiers have been killed and six others injured in two bomb attacks in Iraq's provinces of Diyala and Kirkuk on Thursday, police said.
A roadside bomb went off near an Iraqi army patrol in the Rashad area, some 25 km south of the oil-rich city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The blast killed two soldiers and wounding three others, including one in a critical condition, the source said.
A military vehicle was also destroyed by the blast, the source added.
Early on Thursday, two roadside bombs exploded coordinately before dawn near another army patrol outside the town of Jalawla, in the volatile province of Diyala in northeast of Baghdad, killing six soldiers and wounding three others, according to an Iraqi Interior Ministry.
An Iraqi Army officer was among the killed, the source said.
Diyala province, which stretches from eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border, has been the stronghold of al-Qaida in Iraq network and other insurgent groups since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
