Seven Palestinians were killed and 10wounded on Monday as Israeli army continued its air and ground offensive in Gaza Strip for the 17th day, medics and witnesses said.

Gaza emergency chief Mo'aweya Hassanein said that seven Palestinians were killed, including two women and two children, during a series of tanks shelling and airstrikes all over Gaza Strip.

Palestinian witnesses told local radio stations that Israeli army tanks and warplanes struck several houses in southern and eastern Gaza City, and on the towns of Jabalia and Beit Lahia in northern Gaza Strip.

They said that the Israeli army has intensified after midnight its tanks shelling on eastern Gaza City's neighborhood of Sheja'eya and the southern neighborhood of Zeitoon.

They added that heavy and violent clashes erupted between Gaza militants and Israeli troops near Gaza City's outskirts and northern Gaza Strip, adding that the militants managed to stop the Israeli army ground forces to advance deeper.

Hamas armed wing al-Qassam Brigades and Islamic Jihad armed wing Saraya al-Quds said in separate statements that fierce clashes took place near al-Tufah neighborhood as well as in Jabalia and Beit Lahia.

The two groups said that their militants managed to block any advance of the Israeli ground forces into densely populated areas of the towns, cities and refugee camps in Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the village of Khoza'a, east of southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, have also witnessed intensive tanks shelling and airstrikes.

Hamas media office said in a statement that since the beginning of the offensive on Dec. 27, 900 Palestinians have been killed and 4,100 injured.
