Iran's Majlis (parliament) promised Sunday to reconstruct the building of the Palestinian parliament in Gaza City that was destroyed in the recent Israeli offensive, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The Majlis "has always supported restoration of rights of the Palestinian nation," parliament Speaker Ali Larijani was quoted assaying, adding that "Majlis will remain beside the Palestinian nation for ever."

Larijani, meanwhile, extended his congratulations to the Hamas resistance movement for achieving "sweet victories over the Tel Aviv regime."

According to Iran's satellite Press TV website report on Saturday, Iran had escalated its efforts to aid the reconstruction of Gaza Strip.

Israel carried out a three-week-long unprecedented military assault on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip since Dec. 27, 2008, killingaround 1,400 Palestinians and injuring 5,500 others.
