The head of National Iranian Oil Company Dispatching Center Hassan Torbati said that a German firm is seeking a long-term purchase of Iran's natural gas, the satellite Press TV reported Wednesday.
The German company Bayerngas, which is involved in trading and transfer of natural gas, "is to open an office in Tehran," Torbati said.
The two companies of "Iran and Germany signed an agreement to cooperate on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for downstream industries... and they are to cooperate on CNG equipment, downstream gas industries and refineries," he was quoted as saying.
Though the UN and the West imposed sanctions against Iran over its sensitive nuclear program, Germany is still Iran's biggest trade partner in the European Union.
Around 50 German firms have their own branch offices in Iran and more than 12,000 firms have their own trade representatives in the country. Several renowned German companies are involved in major Iranian infrastructure projects, especially in the petrochemical sector.
