Senior Iranian and Venezuelan officials reviewed ways to expand bilateral defense relations, the official IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
During a visit to Venezuela, Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar discussed with his Venezuelan counterpart Ramon Carrizalez the defense ties between the two counties.
The bilateral relations between Iran and Venezuela are in line with strengthened stability and security in both countries and the entire world, Najjar was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The Iranian defense minister described defense ties between the two nations as "comprehensive and strategic," according to the semi-official Fars news agency on Tuesday.
He expressed Iran's readiness to participate in joint defense projects and to share Iran's defense experiences with Venezuela.
For his part, Carrizalez said Venezuela pursues the same goals and hopes for further collaboration with Iran, demanding expansion of all-out defense relations between the two countries.
Heading a high-ranking defense delegation, Najjar arrived in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas Monday on a three-day visit. On Tuesday, he visited several Venezuelan military and industrial sites and a military faculty in Caracas.
This is Najjar's first visit to Venezuela and also the first by an Iranian defense minister to Venezuela after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.
The two countries have developed strong ties in recent years in energy production, economy and industry, especially after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took office in 2005.
