Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Sunday announced his bloc's electoral lists for the upcoming general elections and voiced commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people, LBC TV reported.

At a press conference, Berri said his bloc remains fully "committed to the national duties towards Syria and the Palestinian people, especially in the face of Israel's efforts to judaize Jerusalem."

His bloc is committed to "the rights of the Palestinians to return to their homeland, and their rights to establish a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital," he was quoted by saying.

Berri said he and his candidates remained faithful to its founding principles including "the choice of resistance which is a vital national necessity as Israel continues to occupy a part of our land ... and violate Lebanon's airspace, border and territorial waters."

The parliament speaker urged the full implementation of UN resolutions 425 and 1701 which call for Israel's full withdrawal from Lebanon.

Berri also voiced his bloc's support for confidence-building measures among Arab states, calling for strengthening relations with neighboring Muslim countries, especially Syria, Iran and Turkey.

"We will work as a parliamentary bloc to reinforce the role of the Lebanese army which represents a security network for Lebanon," Berri said, stressing his commitment to UN resolution 1701 which calls for the Lebanese army to be in charge of security in the south.

Berri, who is the Shiite leader of Amal movement, is a major ally in the upcoming elections with the Shiite armed group Hezbollah and Christian opposition leader Michel Aoun.
