A leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on Wednesday said that the creation of a new government will increase the Palestinian schism.

The reshuffling of two governments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank "will not make the national dialogue successful and will increase the split," said Kayed al-Ghoul, a member of the PFLP's central committee.

President Mahmoud Abbas asked his West Bank-based premier to reshuffle his government while Islamic Hamas movement threatened to respond with an expansion of its administration that controls the Gaza Strip.

"The split still exists and the parties to the division are still sticking to the new situation on the ground," al-Ghoul said, referring to Hamas' violent takeover of Gaza in 2007 and the ensuing cut in political ties with the West Bank.

The West Bank government was supposed to be announced Tuesday but Abbas' Fatah movement refused the formation since it mostly included members loyal to Premier Salam Fayyad's Third Road party.

The dispute came as Hamas and Fatah failed to reach an agreement on forming a unity government during Cairo-hosted talks.

However, the two movements will go again to Egypt this week to continue the dialogue.
