A suicide bomber struck a crowd of anti-Qaida group members at a military base in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Thursday, killing seven members and an Iraqi army soldier, a local police source said.

A suicide bomber blew himself up among Awakening Council group members who were gathering to collect salaries in a military base in Kirkuk, killing the eight and wounding seven others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The suicide bomber disguised in the uniform of the group members, the source said.

The attack came a day after a car bombing near a popular restaurant in the Shualaa neighborhood in northwest of Baghdad, killing at least 34 people and wounding some 72 others.
