U.S. President Barack Obama's much-anticipated keynote speech on Thursday noon in Cairo University won a storm of applause.
His speech, which comes as a fresh attempt to reach out to Muslims to rebuild U.S. credibility in the Muslim world, was hailed by thousands of listeners in the Conference Hall of the university.
The U.S. president called for a new beginning of U.S.-Muslim relationship "based on mutual interests and mutual respect.
He quoted words from both Koran and Bible during his address, to show respect for different religions, which drew applause of the audience.
Obama arrived in Cairo Thursday morning on a one-day visit, as part of his Mideast-Europe tour which will also take him to Germany and France.
