Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Thursday hailed the speech to the world's Muslims made by U.S. President Barack Obama at Cairo University in Egypt as "sincere, honest and realistic."

What he has addressed in the speech showed that he was a constructive leader with whom Islamic countries could set up a partnership relationship to ensure peace and stability in the region, Gul told the semi-official Anatolia news agency.

"I think the message given by President Obama was quite clear. He sincerely shared feelings and thoughts with people in the Islamic countries and expressed them," Gul was quoted as saying.

"This is very hopeful, and the consistency of his remarks today with his statements during pre-election campaigns revealed his coherence," he added.

Earlier in the day, Obama said in the major speech to the Muslim world that the United States seeks a new beginning of relations with Muslims based on mutual interests and respect.
