Four Palestinians were wounded early Sunday in Israeli aerial bombing targeted smuggling tunnels on Gaza-Egypt border, local sources said.

The sources said that Israeli F-16 jets dropped several bombs along the border line in southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, destroying entry shafts of some five underground tunnels.

Medical sources said the four contraband workers got light to moderate wounds and they were taken to Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital in the border town.

Later this morning, Palestinian militants detonated an explosive device near an Israeli army jeep patrolling along the security fence which separates between Israel and central Gaza Strip, security sources said.

The Israeli forces responded by opening heavy fire towards fields in the east of al-Bureej refugee camp, forcing farmers to flee from the area.

The recent violence was flared up after a rocket, fired from the Hamas-controlled coastal Strip and landed in an open area in southern Israel. Israeli sources said the rocket caused no casualties or damages.

No Palestinian group claimed responsibility for firing the rocket.

Palestinian rocket attacks have largely decreased after Israel ended a military offensive on Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Jan. 18 as Hamas maintained a level of self- restraint.
