Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who will visit Gaza on Tuesday, intends to present Hamas with a new form of vision to resolve the Israel-Palestinian conflict, a well-informed source said on Monday.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that Carter briefed Hamas leaders with the summary of his vision during former meetings held recently in Syria.

"Hamas leaders promised Carter to study his thoughts if they received it as a written text," said the source, adding "Carter will hand Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haneya a copy of his new peace form on Tuesday."

The source said that among the provisions of Carter's proposed vision, will be "Hamas' recognition of Israel's right to exist." Hamas rejects to recognize Israel and believes that having the whole land of Palestine is a legitimate Palestinian right.

Carter will pay a visit to Gaza on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to hold talks with senior Hamas leaders, including Haneya. The Gaza Strip has been under Hamas rule since June 2007.

He held talks last week in Damascus with top exiled Hamas leaders, and discussed with them several issues, including the release of captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

The source said Carter will deliver Hamas leaders a letter he got from Shalit's family when he visited Israel on Sunday, and will discuss the possibilities of pushing forward the indirect talks on releasing Shalit.

He will check the destruction caused by Israeli military offensives carried out against Gaza for 22 days which ended on January 18, before meeting with Hamas leaders later on Tuesday afternoon.
