Iran recalled its ambassador to Azerbaijan for talks over Israeli President Shimon Peres' visit to Baku, the local ISNA news agency reported on Monday.
"Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan was recalled to Tehran for consultations," ISNA cited an informed source as saying.
Following Peres' travel to Baku and regarding the threats of the Israeli ambassador in Baku and the threats of some of the officials of this regime (Israel) against Islamic Republic of Iran, the recall has been done, ISNA added.
Israeli President traveled to Baku on June 28 for a state visit, which has sparked sharp words between Azerbaijan and its southern Islamic Republic neighbor.
On Monday Peres said, "Azerbaijan has proven that it is a true friend of Israel, and I am happy that despite the grave threats from Iran aimed at canceling and sabotaging my visit, Azerbaijan did not succumb to the pressure and decided to enhance its strategic relations with Israel."
Iran's top officials, including the hardliner President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have strongly claimed that Israel remains Iran's main enemy.
Israel has consistently refused to rule out the possibility of military strikes against Iran over its refusal to halt its nuclear program.
The United States and its allies have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied the charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
