Iraqi Interior Ministry announced the killing of first Iraqi soldier and the wounding of ten people in a bomb attack in central Baghdad on Thursday.

A roadside bomb struck an Iraqi Humvee near the Abu Nawas corniche, on the east side of the Tigris River, destroying the vehicle, killing a soldier and wounding two aboard, a ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Eight more pedestrians were wounded by the powerful blast, which also occurred just across the river near the Green Zone that houses the U.S. embassy and Iraqi government offices, the source said.

The soldier is the first who killed following the landmark U.S. troops' withdrawal from the Iraqi cities, towns and villages two days ago.
