Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Abu Dhabi late Friday for a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), during which he will meet U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the official WAM news agency reported.
Abbas was received upon his arrival by UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, senior UAE officials and Palestinian Ambassador to UAE Khairi Al Aridi, the report said.
Earlier reports said Hillary Clinton and U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell are also expected to pay a visit to Abu Dhabi, where they will meet Abbas on Saturday in a bid to bridge gaps between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Israel to restart long-stalled peace negotiations.
Clinton is to pay her second visit to the region over the weekend, in an effort to push forward the Middle East peace process. She will fly to Israel after meeting with Abbas.
