Six killed in floods in Turkey

Floods caused by heavy rains have killed six people in Turkey in the past three days, Turkish media reported Monday.

Deluges swept away a minibus in the southeastern province of Siirt, killing a teacher and wounding three others who were in the vehicle, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet Daily News reported on its website.

Schools in Siirt were temporarily closed on Monday because of the floods, said the report.

A truck driver who worked in a dam construction site in the southeastern province of Sirnak was washed away in his truck by the floods and his body has been found, the CNN Turk channel reported Monday on its website.

On Sunday, floods killed a six-month-old boy in the northwestern province of Yalova and three children in the southeastern Mardin province, said the Hurriyet Daily News.

Many provinces in north and east Turkey have seen downpours and low temperature since last week.

On Tuesday, heavy rainfalls are expected to move from the southeast to the southern province of Antalya and reach the Aegean province of Mugla late at night, said the newspaper.
