Israel's special navy forces discovered weapons and ammunition on a cargo ship overnight Tuesday off Israeli coast, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokeswoman told Xinhua on Wednesday morning.
The discovery came after the navy forces boarded the cargo ship some 100 nautical miles west of Israel flying an Antiguan flag, said the spokeswoman on the phone, adding that after searching the vessel, the forces found the weapons and ammunition cache hidden behind it.
The ship has been towed to an Israeli port, she said, adding that it is currently being examined by the IDF.
When asked about the destination of the ship, the spokeswoman said that at the moment, it remains unknown.
