Al-Qaida group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's fatal ambush that killed two Yemeni security officers along with their four escorts in the southeast country.
The group posted Thursday a statement on an Islamist website, saying that "the operation had been carried out to back up our brethren's detainees in prisons of Hadramout, Sanaa and other Yemeni jails."
"The ambush was revenge over anyone intends to cause damage to Mujahideen," said al-Qaida in its statement.
Ahmed Salim al-Ammary, director of the General Security Services (GSS) in Hadramout province, and Ahmed Ba-Wazir, head of the Political Security Organization (PSO) in Hadramout, were killed on board with their four security escorts in an ambush along the highway in Sayon city of Hadramout province, 650 km southeast the capital Sanaa.
The fatal ambush took place while the security officials were on an inspection mission to places believed to be hideouts of al-Qaida close to Sayon.
