Yemeni coastguards have captured eight Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden, the Yemeni Defense Ministry reported on Friday on its website.
The eight Somali pirates were on board a boat laden with two rocket-propelled grenades, some light weapons and a ladder for hijacking ships, said the ministry, citing a security source at the Yemeni Coastguard in Aden as saying.
The source said the boat and the weapons have been confiscated as investigation with the arrested Somali pirates was still ongoing.
Somali pirates have reportedly activated off the Yemeni southern tip in the Gulf of Aden. Yemen is key partner in the International Coalition Forces for combating piracy in the infected-area Horn of Africa.
