Gunmen wearing Iraqi army uniforms killed 13 civilians in a village near Baghdad on Monday, a local police source said.
Gunmen stormed the Sunni village of Zauba and conducted a search operation, detaining 13 villagers and executing them just outside the village before they fled the scene, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Tensions flared in the area after the attack while Iraqi security forces intensified presence around the village, the source said, adding that an investigation is underway.
Sporadic attacks continued in Iraq as part of recent deterioration in security which shaped a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country after U.S. troops pullout of cities and towns.
